Many have heard of it but few actually know it. With the advent of so many technological innovations every now and then, a lot may have overlooked the existence of VoIP services. Probably, some even chose to ignore VoIP services thinking that they have the best communication technologies. Well, they really have not encountered VoIP.
VoIP stands for Voice Internet Protocol. This revolutionizes the way you look at long distance phone calls. VoIP is a new way of converting analog audio signals to digitally transmitted data through the Internet.
How does a free phone call sound to you? If you have doubts, let VoIP help you in this department. Today, the Internet is not just an information superhighway. It is also a communication pathway. In this case, you can use the Internet to communicate with anyone for free. All you need is a VoIP software.
Today, there are 3 VoIP services commonly used. The first one is ATA (Analog Telephone Adaptor) which can link a standard phone to a computer. What actually happens is that the analog signal from a telephone is converted to digital data and transmitted to the Internet. The second one is IP phones. They may look like ordinary phones but they are actually specialized and consist of Ethernet connectors. Imagine this, if you have Wi-Fi phone, you can make VoIP calls in any spot with Wi-Fi. Lastly, the easiest way to communicate through VoIP is from one computer to another. All you need are the peripherals like microphone, speakers, sound card and an Internet connection and of course the VoIP software. With these, you can say goodbye to long distance phone bills.
VoIP indeed will cause some evolution in the telephone systems anywhere on the planet. In other words, VoIP can reinvent the existing system, making communication synonymous to convenience and ease. No one knows what the future may hold but it is most likely that VoIP will replace the phone system today.
