GETTING THE HOME IN ORDERCategory: Family Article posted by: Teri Woods
It’s the beginning of a new year and with it comes the drive to re-organize and spruce up the home for the coming spring.
Often times we find that being organized makes for a great start to our day. Frustration sets in when we are unable to locate items that we need to get ready for school, the office and the like. With everything in its rightful place we are able to set our minds and our feet in motion with ease and a sense of peace.
Organizing a home takes quite some thought but with a pen a paper in hand we can plan out the job with ease. Whether you are selling your home or you are just feeling a need to de-clutter and find more storage this is the right time to get started.
Start by making a list of each room in the home that needs attention. Next you will need to list exactly what it is that needs to be accomplished in the space. Examples may be to install a few organizers in the closet, toss out all aged clothing and hang clothing according to its purpose. In the kitchen it may be to discard old pots and pans to get ready for a new set or to arrange spices in a cabinet closest to the stove top. Maybe it is to go thru all those books you have stacked around the house and get them organized stately into a bookshelf. Whatever the task make a list for each and every room.
In order to avoid becoming overwhelmed you will need to stick with one room at a time. No bouncing back and forth from one project to the next. By doing so you will not accomplish anything and you will most likely give up.
Keep foremost in your mind the fact that you absolutely need a space for everything. Right down to combs and hairbrushes, jewelry and tools. In a bathroom a tall shelf with matching baskets could provide a place for all your families’ essentials. In a kitchen you might stack all lids and frying pans in one shelf and store baking dishes in the other. Keep all related items in the same vicinity in order to make daily chores simplified.
You are sure to feel more free and relieved once your home is well organized and you will gain more time in your day as well.

| I have been an interior designer for over 20 years now and in the past several years have branched out into the world of Home Staging. I have staged homes in the price range of $200k to well over $1m and can proudly state that each home was sold within 3 days to 2 weeks after staged. Staging a home for the real estate market is an absolute must for the seller whom wishes the home to sell FAST and for absolute TOP DOLLAR! Once a home is properly designed to sell it will appraise at a higher value as well. Brokers reap great benefits from homes that are staged in that the home will sell much quicker than others that are not prepared for the "show", the two go hand in hand, Stagers and Realtors. |
